Moving from SMATV to IPTV does not always require new LAN cabling. It depends on existing room LAN, network readiness and TV models.
| Option | Best when | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Existing LAN | Tested room LAN, multicast-capable switches | May need switch upgrades |
| 2. Hybrid over coax | No room LAN, no renovation planned | Hybrid-capable TVs, good Wi-Fi |
| 3. FTTR fiber | Renovation, Wi-Fi/LAN also need upgrading | Higher upfront cost |
| 4. Phased by floor | Hotel must stay open | Old and new floors must interoperate |
Check room LAN, switches (IGMP, VLAN, ports), TVs, coax levels (65–75 dBµV for hybrid) and renovation plans.
