MATV (Master Antenna Television)
MATV (this refers only to Digital MATV systems) is a centralized television system that receives terrestrial DVB-T or DVB-T2 signals via antenna, then amplifies and distributes the RF signal to multiple viewing points through in-building coaxial cabling, using a headend such as an RF mast amplifier, RF multi-band amplifier, channel amplifier, or channel processor before distributing through splitters and tap-offs to end-point TVs with built-in digital tuners, or via a digital set-top box connected to older TVs. For a large number of viewing points, an RF distribution amplifier is used. This type of system has a simple structure with relatively low installation and maintenance costs and low power consumption, making it ideal for distributing basic Thai free-to-air channels — currently around 20-25 channels with no licensing fees. MATV systems are designed for installation in condominiums, apartments, hotels, resorts, hospitals, residences, or office buildings. Basic MATV systems have limitations on channel arrangement; if custom channel ordering or selective channel delivery is required, a rebroadcasting method using a transcoder device must be used.
 
SMATV (Satellite Master Antenna Television)
SMATV (this refers only to Digital SMATV systems) is a further development of MATV that adds satellite DVB-S or DVB-S2 signal reception alongside terrestrial antenna signals. The satellite signal is converted into DVB-T or DVB-T2 format to match the terrestrial signal type using a satellite transcoder or satellite receiver, then combined with the terrestrial antenna signal for RF distribution via coaxial cable to TVs in each room. This system is typically used to receive free-to-air programs from abroad or Thai TV channels via satellite to increase the number of available channels. Where additional licensed TV channel content is required and that content is delivered via satellite, a satellite dish is installed and connected to a satellite receiver, then converted to DVB-T or DVB-T2 signal — another scenario where SMATV is the system of choice. This system is suitable for buildings that need to receive both basic Thai terrestrial channels and a large number of international free-to-air or licensed satellite channels, such as hotels, hospitals, and large, high-end condominiums or apartments with tourist and business guests, both Thai and international. However, the underlying structure remains a traditional RF distribution system using coaxial or fiber-optic cable.
 
CATV (Community Antenna Television / Cable TV)
In the past, most CATV systems were subscription-based centralized television systems, where a cable TV service provider or Local Cable TV Operator (LCO) would invest in building a network to provide service at the sub-district, district, provincial, regional, or even nationwide level, offering quality television channels and charging subscription fees to users.

There is also another type of CATV system that serves remote areas or areas with poor terrestrial television signal reception. In this case, the service provider receives satellite signals via a satellite dish and then distributes them through a cable network to the community. Most users in these areas are local residents, and subscription fees are charged at relatively low rates.

Today, CATV systems are also applied in housing development projects or large residential communities to provide television channels as well as internal information channels for the project, such as juristic person announcements, in-house produced programs, or CCTV footage, to facilitate and enhance communication with residents within the project.

The structure of a CATV system is a television distribution network using coaxial cable, or a hybrid network combining coaxial and fiber-optic cable, known as Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC). Signals are received from multiple sources, such as satellite, terrestrial television stations, or content providers, including in-house produced programs. The signals are then converted into a uniform format, either DVB-C or DVB-T/T2, combined, and processed before being transmitted through the network to the service area, distributing the signal into buildings or residences at the end-user's location.
 
Hotel IPTV (Hospitality IPTV System)
IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a television distribution system that operates over an IP network, using computer network infrastructure such as Fiber LAN or Fiber GPON FTTx networks, or broadcasting over the internet, instead of transmitting signals via coaxial cable as in traditional centralized TV systems. In an IPTV system, television signals from various sources — such as satellite, terrestrial television stations, or content providers, including in-house produced programs — are converted into IP format via an encoder or transcoder, then processed through an IPTV server or cloud server to manage channels, viewing points, and other value-added services. The signal is then distributed over the network to end devices such as a set-top box (STB), Hotel Smart TV, Android TV, Google TV, or smartphone.

The system can also connect with Smart Room or IoT systems to control in-room devices, making the TV the center of the digital experience within the hotel room. This has made the technology popular in the modern hospitality industry due to its high flexibility, ease of system expansion, and ability to deliver a complete digital experience for guests.

MATV receives signals from a terrestrial antenna (DVB-T/T2) and is suitable for buildings that need around 20-25 basic Thai TV channels at low cost. SMATV adds satellite signal reception (DVB-S/S2), providing additional international channels, making it suitable for hotels or condominiums with international guests. CATV, meanwhile, is a community or village-level network system typically invested in and operated by a Local Cable TV Operator (LCO) that charges subscription fees. All three systems still primarily use coaxial cable infrastructure, unlike IPTV, which distributes signals over an IP network.

Suitable for dormitories, condominiums, apartments, government accommodation, and office buildings that need stable, basic Thai TV channels with low installation and maintenance costs and no monthly service fees. If additional international channels are needed for international guests, such as at hotels or large hospitals, SMATV should be considered instead.

Hotel IPTV is recommended, as it can display personalized welcome messages for guests, integrate with a PMS system, allow food ordering or room service requests via the TV screen, and update hotel information centrally in real time. MATV/SMATV systems, on the other hand, are suitable for cases where only basic TV channels are needed without interactive features.
