Product Overview
The Tap-Off 2way (Tap Off 2 way) FRACARRO TAPS220 (Code 287315) is a professional-grade, 2-output horizontal directional tap featuring a compact top-down design and standard F-connectors. Operating across an ultra-wideband frequency spectrum from 5 to 2400 MHz, it is perfectly engineered to distribute Return Channel, digital terrestrial television (TV), and satellite (SAT) signals in multi-dwelling installations.
Technical Characteristics & Specifications
- 2-Output Configuration: It features 2 separate subscriber tap ports to distribute signals to two different apartments or devices from a single unit.
- 20 dB Constant Tap Attenuation: It delivers a highly stable and flat 20 dB attenuation across all frequency bands from 5 to 2400 MHz. This higher attenuation level is ideal for extracting just enough signal for subscribers where the main trunk line signal is very strong.
- Low Insertion Loss: The main signal backbone experiences very low insertion loss, measuring 1.5 dB on the Return Channel, 2 dB on TV bands, 3 dB on mid-satellite bands, and a maximum of 4 dB at the highest satellite frequencies (2150 to 2400 MHz). This ensures the main signal passes down to lower levels with minimal degradation.
- High Output Isolation: It offers outstanding port isolation, reaching 30 to 33 dB in the lower and TV frequencies, and 25 to 28 dB in the satellite bands. This effectively prevents cross-talk or noise interference between the two connected apartments.
- DC Pass-Through Configuration: Direct current (DC) is permitted to pass exclusively along the main line between the through output and the main input to power upstream components like a satellite LNB. Both subscriber tap outlets are completely DC-blocked for enhanced safety.
- Premium Metal Construction: Crafted from a high-performance die-cast zinc housing, it provides exceptional electromagnetic shielding against external interference. Its compact dimensions of 55 x 64 x 27 millimeters allow it to fit seamlessly inside standard wall-mounted junction boxes, complete with pre-arranged slots for wall mounting and an earth connection.
Applications
With its 2-way output design and a high 20 dB tap attenuation, the TAPS220 is highly utilized in multi-story buildings (such as condos, hotels, and apartments) under the following scenarios:
- Top-Floor or Near-Amplifier Distribution: In a vertical cascaded backbone system, the signal coming directly from the roof-top antennas, amplifiers, or headend stations is at its strongest. The TAPS220 (20 dB) is strategically placed on these upper floors to tap off a small, safe fraction of the signal for the top-floor apartments. Because its insertion loss is incredibly low, the vast majority of the main signal passes cleanly down to serve the lower floors.
- Cascaded System Balancing for Dual-Room Layouts: This unit serves as the essential first tier for building layouts with side-by-side rooms. Installers can achieve perfect signal equalization throughout the building by placing this TAPS220 (20 dB) on the high-signal top floors, a TAPS215 (15 dB) on the middle floors, and a TAPS212 (12 dB) on the bottom floors. This ensures that every apartment gets an identical, stable signal level regardless of the floor height.
- Electrical and Noise Isolation: Thanks to its superior port isolation and DC-blocked tap ports, the device acts as a secure protective firewall. If a set-top box or TV inside one apartment suffers a severe short circuit or generates electrical feedback, the disturbance is completely trapped at that specific port. It cannot bleed back into the central infrastructure to disrupt the building's main LNB power line or degrade the picture quality of the neighboring apartment.
