The reasons why modern hotels and resorts choose to implement GPON FTTR (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) in an FTTR architecture involve both technical and business perspectives. Summarized from real-world system design practices, the key points are as follows:
1) Reduces infrastructure costs (CAPEX & OPEX): GPON FTTR systems use a single main fiber optic line and Splitters to distribute signals to multiple rooms. 4) Simple architecture and easier maintenance: Traditional LAN or Fiber LAN systems require at least two sets of network switches: Core Network Switches and Access Network Switches, along with a large number of copper cables. In contrast, GPON FTTR uses only one set of Core Network Switches, with the distribution network replaced by PLC Splitters over a single fiber optic line. This centralized approach reduces failure points, making it easier for IT teams to manage.
5) Supports modern hotel technologies (Smart Hotel): GPON FTTR provides an excellent foundation for future expansion, such as Smart Rooms / IoT, IPTV (Internet Protocol Television), control systems for air conditioning, lighting, and Access Control, as well as Wi-Fi 6 / Wi-Fi 7 Backhaul.
