What is the UKCA Mark?
Standards Related to Data, Video, and Audio Communication Systems Part 3
Devices bearing the UKCA mark indicate that they have been certified to meet the safety standards of the United Kingdom and can be legally sold and used within the UK.
UKCA stands for UK Conformity Assessed. It is a new conformity marking that replaces CE marking for the countries of the United Kingdom, which includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. This mark signifies that the goods have met the safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and technical standards as required by the UK. It was introduced after the United Kingdom officially left the European Union in 2020 (Brexit). The CE mark, which was previously used for product certification within Europe, is no longer sufficient for the UK market. Therefore, the new UKCA mark has been required since 2021.How is UKCA Important for the Electrical and Electronics Equipment Industry?
Electrical and electronic equipment intended for sale in the countries of the United Kingdom (UK) must be certified and have the UKCA mark affixed to the product itself, its packaging, or accompanying documentation. The UKCA mark assures that the equipment complies with UK safety laws for users, does not interfere with other devices, and meets UK regulatory standards strictly. According to the UK government's regulations, the UKCA mark should be present on the label of the equipment or the product itself, in the user manual, on the outer packaging, and in the Declaration of Conformity. As per the UK government's announcement, if equipment does not yet have UKCA but has CE marking and is existing stock, the use of CE marking will be permitted only until the end of 2024.
